In den 1950er- bis 1980er-Jahren waren in der Kleinstadt Nordhorn gleich drei Textilunternehmen von internationaler Bedeutung ansässig: Rawe, Povel und Nino. Größen wie Designer Karl Lagerfeld, Kunden wie Uwe Seeler, Diana Rigg, Helmut Newton und viele andere Prominente haben hier ihre Spuren hinterlassen. In den Textilunternehmen waren 12.000 Menschen beschäftigt. Ende der 1980er-Jahre begann der Absturz der Textilstadt. Kleidung ließ sich plötzlich in Asien und Afrika billiger produzieren. Eine ganze Stadt verlor ihre Existenzgrundlage.

Heute ist davon nichts mehr zu spüren. Nordhorn steht wieder sehr gut da, eine lebenswerte Stadt - ohne Textilindustrie. In der Dokumentation erinnern sich Beschäftigte, Prominente, Kaufleute und Starfotografen der großen Modeblätter an die goldenen Jahre der Textilindustrie.

Fashion means Nordhorn

From the 1950s to the 1980s, three textile companies of international repute were based in the small town of Nordhorn: Rawe, Povel and Nino. Famous people such as the designer Karl Lagerfeld as well as customers such as Uwe Seeler, Diana Rigg, Helmut Newton and many other prominent figures left their traces here. 12,000 people were employed by the textile companies. The sharp decline of the textile town began at the end of the 1980s. Suddenly clothes could be produced more cheaply in Asia and Africa. A whole town lost the basis of its livelihood.

Not a trace of this is evident today. Nordhorn is again in very sound condition; a town worth living in - without a textile industry. Employees, prominent figures, traders and star photographers for popular fashion magazines recall the golden years of the textile industry in the documentary.
