Ein Pharmakonzern entwickelt eine Antibabypille für Teenager, die möglicherweise gesundheitsgefährdend ist. Dr. Carsten Gellhaus, ein Mitarbeiter der Firma, gerät in einen Gewissenskonflikt. Der Film orientiert sich an wahren Begebenheiten, erzählt aber eine fiktionale Geschichte.

Dr. Carsten Gellhaus muss das „Medical Document“ für die behördliche Freigabe der Mikropille „Bellacara“ erstellen. Sein Privatleben ist derweil turbulent: Mit seiner Chefin Dr. Sabine Krüger hat Gellhaus eine Affäre, seine Ehe zerbricht.

Noch bevor „Bellacara“ in den Handel kommt, erfährt Gellhaus, dass die Mikropille möglicherweise das Risiko für Thrombosen erhöht. Er will dem Verdacht nachgehen, stößt dabei aber auf den erbitterten Widerstand seiner Chefin. Gellhaus akzeptiert dies zunächst, bis er die Pille bei seiner eigenen Tochter findet.
 

What we knew - the risk of the pill

A pharmaceutical company develops a contraceptive pill for teenagers that possibly poses a health risk. Dr. Carsten Gellhaus, a company employee, is caught in a moral conflict. Although the film is oriented to true events, it tells a fictional story.

Dr. Carsten Gellhaus is responsible for preparing the “Medical Document” for the official approval of the micro-pill “Bellacara”. His private life is meanwhile in a state of turmoil: Gellhaus is having an affair with his boss Dr. Sabine Krüger and his marriage is breaking up.

Even before “Bellacara” comes onto the market, Gellhaus learns that the micro-pill possibly increases the risk of thrombosis. Although he wishes to follow up this suspicion, he is faced with fierce opposition by his boss. Although Gellhaus accepts this at first, he soon changes his mind when he finds out that his own daughter is in possession of the pill.
