Es ist eine wahre Geschichte: Am Rande einer deutschen Großstadt bricht der Krieg der Kulturen aus. Eine muslimische Gemeinde will auf einem brachliegenden Grundstück eine Moschee errichten. Anwohner schließen sich in einer Bürgerinitiative zusammen, Lokalpolitiker und Neonazis protestieren Hand in Hand gegen den geplanten Bau. Es kommt zu Demonstrationen und Tumulten, bis Brandsätze gelegt und aus Nachbarn Feinde werden.
Der reinszenierte Interviewfilm MOSCHEE DE basiert auf Gesprächsprotokollen mit Protagonisten eines Moscheebaukonflikts aus dem Jahr 2006. Die fünf daraus entwickelten Charaktere bieten Wort für Wort einen unverfälschten und tiefen Einblick in die Gemütslage eines Landes, in dem der Islam Teil des Alltags wird - vor dem Hintergrund der PEGIDA-Bewegung und der AfD-Wahlerfolge aktueller denn je.
Mosque DE
It is a true story: on the outskirts of a German city an eruption of the war of cultures breaks out. A Muslim community intends to erect a mosque on an unused plot of land. Local residents join ranks to form a citizens’ initiative - local politicians and Neo-Nazis protest hand in hand against the planned building. This results in demonstrations and riots up to the point of placing incendiary devices and neighbours becoming enemies.
The restaged interview film “MOSCHEE DE” is based on transcripts of conversations with protagonists of a mosque construction conflict in 2006. The five characters developed from the latter offer word for word an authentic and deep insight into the mood of a country in which Islam is becoming a part of everyday life - more relevant than ever against the backdrop of the PEGIDA movement and the AfD election successes.
