„Warum lassen wir das nicht wieder aufleben?“ Diese Frage stellt Hans-Herbert Wiegandt (74) dem Schulleiter des Gymnasiums Martino-Katharineum in Braunschweig. Gemeint ist das Werk des Pädagogen Konrad Koch, der genau an dieser Schule 1871 den Rugby-Sport in Deutschland einführte.

Hans-Herbert Wiegandt ist ein Macher, der weiß, dass alles klein anfängt. Er fährt zwei Mal wöchentlich seine Schul-AGs in Braunschweig und Wolfenbüttel an und trainiert Mädchen und Jungen. Die U16-Mannschaft setzt sich aus sieben Nationen und sechs Religionen zusammen: Deutsche und Migranten, darunter einige Flüchtlinge. Es glückt ihm mit unermüdlichem Einsatz, einen Rugby-Verein zu gründen. Hans-Herbert Wiegandt erschafft eine kleine Rugby-Welt, führt verschiedene Charaktere zusammen und formt aus den Kleinen große Kämpfer.

“Why don’t we revive it?” This is the question Hans-Herbert Wiegandt (74) puts to the headmaster of the Martino-Katharineum Grammar School in Brunswick. This refers to the work of the educationalist Konrad Koch, who introduced the game of rugby to Germany in this very school in 1871.

Hans-Herbert Wiegandt is an initiator, who knows that everything has small beginnings. He travels twice a week to his school project groups in Brunswick and Wolfenbüttel and trains girls and boys. The under-sixteen team is comprised of seven nations and six different religions: Germans and migrants, including several refugees. With untiring engagement, he succeeds in founding a rugby club. Hans-Herbert Wiegandt creates a small rugby world, brings together different characters and transforms young children into big fighters.
