In den mehr als 200 Häfen in Norddeutschland kümmern sich Hafenmeisterinnen oder Hafenmeister um die vielen privaten Boote, die auf Nord- und Ostsee und auf dem Wasser im Binnenland unterwegs sind. Sie sind geliebt und gefürchtet, denn sie haben das Sagen im Hafen. Männer oder Frauen als Festmacher, die andere Typen mit ihren Booten festmachen. Jeden Tag passiert etwas Unerwartetes, mal kleine und mittlere Katastrophen, der Schnack mit Dauerliegern und Dauernörglern ist dabei das Salz in der Suppe. Und dazu hält das Wetter immer wieder Überraschungen parat. Der Job von Hafenmeister:innen erfordert keine Ausbildung. Viele sind freiwillig nach dem Berufsleben oder aus Spaß Hafenmeister:in geworden. Die Reportage-Reihe besucht in jeder der drei Folgen jeweils vier Häfen und stellt ihre Hafenmeisterinnen und Hafenmeister vor.

Harbour masters - moored in northern Germany

In the more than 200 harbours in northern Germany, harbour masters look after the many private boats underway on the North Sea and Baltic Sea as well as on inland waters. Because they have the say in the harbour, they are loved and feared. Men or women mooring the boats of others.Every day something unexpected happens, ranging from trivial to medium disasters. On such occasions, the chitchat with permanent berth-holders and constant complainers is the icing on the cake. And the weather always has surprises in store. The job of harbour master doesn’t require any training. Many people become harbour masters voluntarily after retirement or just for fun. The reportage series visits four harbours in each of the three episodes and introduces viewers to their harbour masters.
