Ein Buch, das rund 300 Jahre auf dem Index der katholischen Kirche steht. Seine Theorie ist heute als die kopernikanische Revolution bekannt und macht ihn zu einem der bedeutendsten Astronomen der Weltgeschichte.
GEHEIMSACHE KOPERNIKUS ist ein Astronomie-Krimi und ein Sittenbild der katholischen Kirche. Mit hochwertigen Spielszenen, internationalen Wissenschaftler:innen sowie bisher unveröffentlichten Quellen porträtiert die szenische Dokumentation den Forscher Kopernikus, erzählt von seinen Problemen mit der Kirche und von seiner verbotenen Liebe zur Haushälterin Anna Schilling.
Kopernicus‘ secret
His revolutionary ideas turned the worldview of the universe upside down: the earth revolves around the sun − and not the other way around. But the astronomer Nicholas Copernicus (1473-1543) kept this theory secret for 30 years out of fear of being condemed as a heretic by the Catholic Church. His heliocentric theory contradicted the Bible. It was his student, the Vorarlberg mathematician Rheticus, who was eventually able to convince Copernicus to publish his theory. Shortly before his death, Copernicus held one of the first printed copies of “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium” in his hands. A book that was on the Catholic Church’s Index of Prohibited Books for around 300 years. His theory is now known as the Copernican Revolution and has made him one of the most influential pioneer astronomers in history.
”GEHEIMSACHE KOPERNIKUS” is an astronomy crime thriller that paints a picture of the then-workings of the Catholic Church. The documentary explores the life of Copernicus through reenacted scenes from the 16th century, eminent scientists and previously unpublished sources, and reveals his struggles with the church and his forbidden love for his housekeeper Anna Schilling.
