Am 1. Dezember 1943 kam Ingelore Prochnows Mutter, im fünften Monat schwanger und gerade mal 19 Jahre alt, ins Frauenkonzentrationslager Ravensbrück. Der Grund ihrer Inhaftierung: „Verkehr mit einem Polen“. Im April des folgenden Jahres brachte sie ihre Tochter zur Welt. Wie durch ein Wunder überstand Ingelore ihr erstes Lebensjahr bis zur Befreiung im April 1945. Sie gehört zu den wenigen im KZ geborenen Kindern, die überlebten. Ingelore wuchs bei Adoptiveltern auf und erfuhr erst 40 Jahre später von den Umständen ihrer Geburt. Sie machte sich auf die Suche nach ihrer Geschichte und nach möglichen Angehörigen.

GEBOREN IN RAVENSBRÜCK vollzieht ihre Suche nach. Es geht um fehlende Erinnerungen, offene Fragen und darum, wie Unsichtbares sichtbar gemacht werden kann. Der Film ist auf der Suche, so wie es Ingelore war und ist.

Born in Ravensbruck

On 1st December 1943, Ingelore Prochnow’s mother, who was five months pregnant and only 19 years old, was sent to the women’s concentration camp in Ravensbruck. The reason for her arrest: “sexual intercourse with a Polish man”. In the following year in April, she gave birth to her daughter. Miraculously, Ingelore survived her first year of life up to the day of liberation in April 1945. She ranks among the few children born in a concentration camp who survived. Ingelore grew up with foster parents and first learnt about the circumstances of her birth 40 years later. She then tried to find out more about her background and possible relatives.

“GEBOREN IN RAVENSBRÜCK” follows up her quest. The documentary deals with missing memories, unanswered questions and the issue of how invisible things can be made visible. The film is on a search trail, just as Ingelore was and still is.
