Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) is probably the most famous - and most profound - American writer. He is credited as one of the inventors of the short story. He wrote some of the earliest whodunnit tales. He shaped the horror and sci-fi genres. Yet his significance was misunderstood during his lifetime. This trend has since been reversed. There is hardly a horror film or a television series about Hallowe’en that does not include references to Edgar Allan Poe.

This documentary takes viewers to his former homes and places of work along the East Coast of the United States, which have become places of pilgrimage for Poe fans. The man who died in abject poverty is still relevant today in a country that is deeply divided and in parts impoverished. In combination with graphic novels and feature films based on Poe's material, the documentary follows in the footsteps of the Master of Horror.
