Die Weser ist ein Fluss ohne Quelle. Er beginnt dort, „wo Werra und Fulda sich küssen“. So sinnlich erklärt es jedenfalls die Inschrift des Wesersteins bei Flusskilometer null. Die Reportage führt die Weser entlang flussabwärts, von der Drei-Flüsse-Stadt Hann.-Münden bis zur Nordseemündung bei Bremerhaven, und porträtiert dabei die Menschen, die an oder sogar auf dem Fluss leben.
Für viele Menschen ist die Weser Arbeitsplatz und Lebensraum, so z. B. für Binnenschiffer Helmut Rüffer und seine Frau Heidemarie oder "Kieskutscher" Wilhelm Addicks und Sohn Simon, die mit ihren Schiffen, der „MS Otrate" und der „MS Liane“, regelmäßig auf der Weser unterwegs sind. Die Reportage erzählt ihre Geschichten, die in direkter Verbindung zum Fluss stehen.
The downstream course of the Weser
The Weser is a river without a source. It begins "where the Werra and Fulda kiss". Anyway, this is the sensual explanation given in the inscription on the Weser milestone at its origin. The report follows the Weser downstream from the three-river town of Hann.-Münden as far as the estuary mouth on the North Sea coast near Bremerhaven, and portrays people who live along or even on the river.
For many people the Weser is a workplace and a living space, as, for example, the bargeman Helmut Rüffer and his wife Heidemarie or the “gravel transporter" Wilhelm Addicks and his son Simon, who are regularly underway on the Weser with their barges “MS Orate" and “MS Liane“. The report tells their stories, which are closely linked to the river.
