Die dreiteilige Dokumentation beschreibt die Geschichte und die Gegenwart der Gewinnung von Diamanten, Kupfer und Gold in den größten Abbaugebieten der Welt.

Diamanten: Wo im Südwesten Afrikas Atlantik und Wüste aufeinander treffen, liegt ein riesiger Schatz auf dem Meeresboden. Das reichste Schmuckdiamanten-Vorkommen der Welt ist zugleich das größte Sperrgebiet Afrikas.

Kupfer: Chile, im Hochland der Atacama-Wüste in 3000 Meter Höhe liegt der größte Kupfertagebau der Erde - Chuquicamata, ein Loch von 900 Meter Tiefe und vier Kilometer Länge. Diese Mine der Superlative trägt bei zum wichtigsten Exportgut Chiles: Aus den chilenischen Anden stammen 35% der Welt-Kupfer-Produktion.

Gold: In den heiligen Jagdgründen der Schoschonen-Indianer im Hochland Nevadas lagert eines der größten Goldvorkommen Nordamerikas. Die Gier nach Gold macht vor den Bergen nicht Halt.

The three-episode documentary portrays the past and present in the extraction of diamonds, copper and gold in the largest mining areas in the world.

Diamonds: A gigantic treasure lies on the seabed where the Atlantic and desert meet in South West Africa. The most abundant reserve of jewellery diamonds in the world is also the largest restricted zone in Africa. Copper: Chile, on the high plateau of the Atacama desert, rising to 3000 metres above sea level, lies the largest open-cast copper mine in the world - Chuquicamata, a hole measuring 900 metres in depth and four kilometres in length. A third of the world’s copper production is extracted from this copper ore deposit in the Andes of Chile.

Gold: One of the largest gold reserves in North America lies in the holy hunting grounds of the Shoshonean Indians in the highlands of Nevada. The greed for gold is unhindered by the mountains.
