Der Film zeigt die Elbe, den zweitlängsten Fluss Deutschlands, in faszinierenden Luftaufnahmen. Einen Sommer lang folgten Regisseur Marcus Fischötter und Kameramann Michael Dreyer dem Lauf der Elbe durch Norddeutschland. Sie filmten Biber und Seeadler, bedrohte Tiere, die nun wieder am Fluss heimisch sind. Und sie trafen echte Elb-Originale, wie den Fischer, der wegen der Elbvertiefung um seine Existenz fürchtet, die Obstbäuerin, deren Familie seit mehr als 250 Jahren das fruchtbare Marschland bewirtschaftet, oder den Künstler hinterm Deich, der dicke Männer mit Knollennase schnitzt.

Beeindruckende Luftbilder zeigen die Elbe, wie sie sich idyllisch durch die Landschaft windet und ab Hamburg zu Deutschlands wichtigster Wasserstraße zur Nordsee wird, bis sie hinter der Insel Neuwerk im Meer verschwindet.
 

The Elbe from above

The film shows fascinating aerial shots of the Elbe, the second longest river in Germany. Over a full summer, the director Marcus Fischötter and his cameraman Michael Dreyer followed the course of the Elbe through north Germany. They filmed beavers and sea eagles, both endangered animals, which have again colonised the river. And they met true Elbe characters, such as the fisherman who is anxious about his existence due to the deepening of the Elbe, the female fruit farmer whose family has cultivated the fertile marshland for more than 250 years or the artist who lives behind the dyke and carves fat men with large noses.

Impressive aerial shots show how the Elbe winds its way idyllically through the landscape, and downstream of Hamburg, becomes Germany’s most important waterway to the North Sea until it disappears in the open sea beyond the Island of Neuwerk.
