Drei wilde Mustangs, drei norddeutsche Trainerinnen: Die Doku-Serie AUF'M MUSTANG begleitet Anna, Maya und Constanze bei ihrer besonderen Herausforderung. Innerhalb von 90 Tagen bereiten sie wilde Pferde auf ihren Höfen für das Leben mit Menschen vor. Am Ende gibt es im Rahmen des „Mustang Makeovers“ eine große Finalshow in Aachen, bei der die Mustangs präsentiert und versteigert werden.

Keine leichte Aufgabe, denn die Pferde haben in den USA über Jahre in freier Wildbahn gelebt. Doch in vielen Gebieten fehlt es ihnen an Nahrung und Wasser. Das US-Landesverwaltungsamt fängt daher jedes Jahr Tausende Mustangs ein und bringt sie in Auffangstationen, um ihre weitere Vermehrung zu verhindern. Die gefangenen Mustangs harren dann oft jahrelang ohne Auslauf in diesen Stationen aus. Im Rahmen der Mustang-Challenge bekommen drei dieser Pferde bei unseren Trainerinnen eine neue Perspektive. Anna trainiert im niedersächsischen Ovelgönne Pferde. Maya aus Großbarkau bei Kiel ist Pferdewirtschaftsmeisterin und trainiert Pferde für Film- und Fernsehproduktionen. Und auch Constanze aus Mecklenburg-Vorpommern lebt für Pferde. Die Arbeit mit Mustangs ist für sie etwas ganz Neues.

Die Doku-Serie und eine Reportage begleiten die Trainerinnen von der Ankunft der Mustangs am Frankfurter Flughafen über die Trainings in Norddeutschland bis hin zum großen Finale.

Up on the Mustang

Three wild Mustangs, three female trainers from North Germany: The documentary series “AUF'M MUSTANG” accompanies Anna, Maya and Constanze during their special challenge. Within the space of 90 days, they prepare wild horses on their farms for life with humans. At the end of this period, a large final show is staged within the framework of the “Mustang Makeover” in Aachen, where the Mustangs are put on show and auctioned.

No easy task, because the horses have lived in the wild in the USA for years. But in many areas, water and food are scarce. The US Bureau of Land Management therefore captures thousands of mustangs every year and brings them to sanctuaries to prevent their further reproduction. The captured mustangs then often remain in these sanctuaries for years without any exercise. As part of the Mustang Challenge, three of these horses are given a new life with the help of our trainers.

Anna trains horses in Ovelgönne, Lower Saxony. Maya from Großbarkau near Kiel is a master horse trainer and trains horses for film and television productions. And Constanze from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also lives for horses. Working with mustangs is something completely new to her.
The documentary series and a coverage report accompany the trainers from the arrival of the Mustangs at Frankfurt Airport via training in North Germany up to the grand finale.
