360° FIGARO is a music film in Virtual Reality: the first ever opera scene conceived entirely for the 360° camera, sung live and set to music, and recorded in binaural sound. There is no underlying production, no theatre, no stage, no audience. Set against a scenery specially constructed for this film, a 25-minute excerpt of musical comedy from Act II of Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro” was newly produced. Instead of centrifugally as in an arena, all action in this case is directed towards the centre, i.e. centripetally. The viewer is standing in the middle of a world created especially for him.
The old theatrical techniques adopted in the baroque opera, for which Mozart composed, coalesce surprisingly and productively with the modern technique of the 360° camera.
