Der Monumentendienst in Niedersachsen ist für viele Besitzer alter Häuser oftmals die einzige Rettung. Bundesweit einmalig werden dort historische Baustoffe gelagert, die bei Abrissarbeiten baufälliger Häuser gesichert wurden: Steine und Balken, Türen und Fenster, gusseiserne Teile und Dachziegel. Wer sein historisches Haus fachgerecht renovieren will, kann hier fündig werden. Die Mitarbeiter des Monumentendienstes beraten außerdem bei der Restaurierung von alten und denkmalgeschützten Gemäuern. Mehr als 1.600 Objekte werden im Nordwesten Niedersachsens bereits von ihnen betreut.

Die Reportage begleitet ihre Arbeit bei der Sanierung eines verfallenen Bauernhofes, der Instandsetzung einer alten Villa und auch bei der Neueindeckung eines 400 Jahre alten Steinhauses mit alten Dachziegeln aus dem Lager des Monumentendienstes.

For many owners of old houses, the monument service in Lower Saxony is often the last resort when it comes to conservation work. Unique in the Federal Republic, this is a storage location for historical building materials and building elements secured during the demolition of dilapidated houses: bricks and beams, doors and windows, cast iron elements and roof tiles. Whoever wishes to professionally renovate his historical house is sure to find something here. Moreover, the monument service team are ready to give advice regarding the restoration of old and listed buildings. More than 1600 objects in the north west of Lower Saxony are already being supervised by the service team.
