Schottische Hochlandrinder - hinter ihren gewaltigen Köpfen mit ausladenden Hörnern stecken echte Gemütstiere, die nur von Liebhabern gehalten werden. Im norddeutschen Flachland sind sie eine Ausnahmeerscheinung, für Bauer Ralf Ohlms das „schönste Rind unter der Sonne“. Einige seiner Rinder stammen sogar aus der Herde von Balmoral, dem Sommersitz von Queen Elizabeth II. Und für seine Tiere ist dem Bauern auch nichts zu viel. Farmer Ohlms and his Highland cattle

Despite their enormous heads with protruding horns, Scottish Highland cattle are really good-natured animals kept only by enthusiasts. In the plains of north Germany they are an exception - for farmer Ralf Ohlms, the “most beautiful cattle under the sun”. Some of his cattle in fact originate from the herd of Balmoral, the summer residence of Queen Elizabeth II. And nothing is too much for the farmer when it comes to his animals. In order to ensure that transportation and visits to the vet don’t subject them to undue stress, Ralf Ohlms takes coaching lessons in low-stress stockmanship from the cow whisperer Philipp Wenz. Among his Scottish Highland cattle, Ralf Ohlms rediscovers something thought to be lost: a fair coexistence between man and beast.
