Der Wolf ist ein Mythos. Ihn umgibt eine Aura der Gefahr und der Unberechenbarkeit. In den 60er- und 70er-Jahren galt der Wolf offiziell als ausgerottet, doch jetzt ist er wieder heimisch in den Wäldern Niedersachsens. Mittlerweile vergeht kaum eine Woche, in der nicht irgendwo im Land ein Wolf gesichtet wird. Kein Tier polarisiert die Bevölkerung so sehr wie der Wolf. Während die einen die Rückkehr des stark geschützten Wildtieres begrüßen, fürchten andere den Kontakt. Die Wiederansiedlung des Wolfes ist eine der größten Herausforderungen im Artenschutz. LEBEN MIT DEM WOLF begleitet über ein Jahr lang die Wolfsbeauftragte des Landes Niedersachsen, ehrenamtliche Wolfsberater und Nutztierhalter auf dem schwierigen Weg der gemeinsamen Koexistenz von Mensch und Canis lupus, dem Urahn der Haushunde.

Living with the wolf

The wolf is a myth. It is surrounded by an aura of danger and unpredictability. Although the wolf was officially regarded as being exterminated in the 60s and 70s, it is now again indigenous in the forests of Lower Saxony. In the meantime, hardly a week goes by without the sighting of a wolf somewhere in this federal state. No other animal polarizes the population as much as the wolf. Whereas some people welcome the return of the highly-protected wild animal, others are afraid of coming into contact with it. The resettlement of the wolf is one of the greatest challenges in the protection of endangered species. Over a period of one year, “LEBEN MIT DEM WOLF” accompanies the wolf commissioner of the State of Lower Saxony, voluntary wolf consultants and livestock farmers along the difficult path of mutual coexistence of man and Canis lupus, the ancestor of domestic dogs.
