This documentary explores the other side of the artist for the first time and follows him into the depths of his visual imagination, which even inspired Van Gogh. It reveals how Andersen experimented with images and text and became a role model for artists like Picasso and Warhol.

The film also ventures to the House of Fairytales, the new avant-garde Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense, Denmark, the author’s birthplace. Here the writer of classics such as The Princess and the Pea and The Little Match Girl is celebrated as a pop star of the Romantic era.
