Leben mit der Nordsee: von den Anfängen menschlicher Besiedlung bis heute. Das ist der Stoff der Dokumentation, die die Geschichte der Nordsee vergegenwärtigt. Mit allen gestalterischen Mitteln, die dem dokumentarischen Fernsehen heute zu Gebote stehen, wird der Lebensraum der Nordsee durchmessen. Im Mittelpunkt der Dokumentation stehen die Menschen, deren Schicksale mit der Nordsee verknüpft sind. Die Nordsee ist dabei ebenso Nahrungsquelle wie Verkehrsweg, Schauplatz von Naturerlebnissen und künstlerischer Inspiration. Sie ist aber auch verheerende Naturgewalt, Kriegsschauplatz und ein Feld der Industrialisierung gewesen. Das Meer ist auch ein wichtiges touristisches Ziel und ein Kristallisationspunkt zukünftiger Probleme wie Klimawandel und Anstieg des Meeresspiegels.
The history of the North Sea
Living with the North Sea: from the beginnings of human settlement up to the present. This is the content matter of the documentary, which brings the history of the North Sea to life. Using all the creative tools now available to documentary television, the documentary traverses the living environment of the North Sea. The documentary focuses on people whose destiny is closely linked with the North Sea. The North Sea serves equally as a source of food, a transportation route, and a stage for experiencing nature and generating artistic inspiration. At the same time, it also embodies the destructive forces of nature, and has also been a theatre of war and a target of industrialization. The sea is also an important tourist destination and a crystallization point for future problems such as climate change and sea level rise.
