Welche visionäre Kraft muss in einem Bauwerk stecken, das Jahrhunderte übersteht? Um dies zu beantworten, unternimmt Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt eine Forschungsreise zu den spektakulären Bauten des Nordens. Er besucht 13 Städte, Bauwerke oder Industriedenkmale vom Hildesheimer Dom zum Nord-Ostsee-Kanal, vom Bergwerk Rammelsberg zum Schweriner Schloss. Gemeinsam mit Experten ergründet der Moderator die Architektur, die Ingenieurskunst und vor allem die spannende und wechselvolle Geschichte Norddeutschlands.

Historische Spielszenen erzählen die Legenden und Geschichten dieser Bauten. Diese Spielszenen wurden im Harz und in Einbeck gedreht. Dabei steht die Bier- und Fachwerkstadt Einbeck stellvertretend für zahlreiche Städte in Norddeutschland, die eine bewegte und spannende Historie haben.

Superstructures of the north

What visionary power must lie behind a construction that has survived centuries? In order to answer this question, Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt embarks on an expedition to spectacular constructions in northern Germany. He visits 13 towns, constructions or industrial monuments from the Dome in Hildesheim to the Kiel Canal − from the Rammelsberg mine to the Schwerin Chateau. In collaboration with experts, the presenter explores the architecture, the engineering skill and above all, the exciting and varied history of northern Germany.

Historical enacted scenes tell of the legends and stories surrounding these constructions. These film scenes were shot in the Harz Mountains and in Einbeck. With its half-timbered houses and famous brewery, Einbeck is representative of numerous towns in the North of Germany with a turbulent and exciting history.
