In Wuqiao, einer kleinen chinesischen Stadt, widmen sich die Einwohner dem Zirkus. Seit Jahrzehnten präsentieren sich Generationen von Zirkuskünstlern als Clowns, Zauberer, Akrobaten und Bändiger. Während der Feiertage des Frühlingsfestes verwandelt sich die „Wuqiao Acrobatic World“ in einen großen Spielplatz für ihre Besucher. Umgeben von Buddha-Tempeln und taoistischen Skulpturen wird ein einzigartiger Raum der Zirkustradition, Fantasie, Illusion und Realität erschaffen. WUQIAO CIRCUS ist ein Film über Fragmente des Zirkuslebens, performative Existenz und die Liebe zur Verspieltheit.
In Wuqiao, a small Chinese town, the inhabitants are dedicated to circus. For decades, different generations of circus artists present themselves as clowns, magicians, acrobats and tamers. During the holidays of the Chinese New Year, the Wuqiao Acrobatic World turns into a big playground for spectators. Surrounded by Buddhist temples and Taoist sculptures, artists create their own space of circus tradition, imagination, illusion and reality. WUQIAO CIRCUS is a film about circus life fragments, performative existence and the love of playfulness.

Lukas Berger *1989 in Kirchdorf an der Krems (Österreich); Studium Fotojournalismus und Dokumentarfotografie, Hochschule Hannover; Masterstudium Dokumentarfilm „DocNomads“, Lissabon (Portugal); Fotograf, Regisseur und Filmemacher; sein Fotobuch „Circus“ (2014) sowie die mehrfach preisgekrönten Kurzfilme CIRCUS DEBERE BERHAN (2015) und CIRCUS MOVEMENTS (2019) porträtieren weltweit Zirkusse.
Lukas Berger *1989 in Kirchdorf on the Krems (Austria); studied Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, Hanover University of Applied Arts and Sciences; Master Degree Course in Documentary Filmmaking − “DocNomads”, Lisbon (Portugal); photographer, director and filmmaker; his photobook “Circus” (2014) as well as the multiple award-winning short films CIRCUS DEBERE BERHAN (2015) and CIRCUS MOVEMENTS (2019) portray circuses across the world.
