Weit im Süden Chiles im Nationalpark Torres del Paine liegt das Jagdrevier des Pumas. Zwischen schroffen Bergen und türkisblauen Seen lebt der elegante Überraschungsjäger und spielt eine wichtige Rolle in dem einzigartigen Ökosystem Patagoniens. Den Nationalpark gibt es seit mehr als 50 Jahren, dennoch weiß bis heute niemand, wie viele Pumas im Park leben. Selbst Parkranger, die schon mehrere Jahrzehnte an diesem Ort arbeiten, haben die scheue Raubkatze noch nie zu Gesicht bekommen.

Filmemacher Uwe Müller ist es gelungen, das Leben einer Pumamutter und ihrer drei Jungen mit der Kamera festzuhalten. Die außergewöhnlichen Aufnahmen dokumentieren das Erwachsenwerden der Jungtiere und das äußerst geschickte Jagdverhalten der Großkatzen. Der Film ist die weltweit erste HD-Produktion, die die natürliche Lebensweise der Pumas in einem intakten Umfeld dokumentiert.
 

Puma - invisible hunter of the Andes

Far south in Chile in the Torres del Paine National Park, you will find the hunting grounds of the puma. This elegant surprise hunter, which lives between rugged mountains and turquoise blue lakes, plays an important role in Patagonia’s unique ecosystem. Although the National Park has existed for more than 50 years, nobody knows to date how many pumas actually live in the Park. Even park rangers who have worked here for several decades have never set eyes on the shy big cat.

The filmmaker Uwe Müller has succeeded in catching the life of a puma mother and her three baby cats on camera. The unusual shots document how the young animals grow up and the extremely skilful hunting tactics of the adult cats. The film is the first HD-production worldwide to document the pumas’ natural way of life in an intact environment.
