Im Iran können Männer Frauen misshandeln, ihnen Gewalt antun, sie erniedrigen, beherrschen und für sie sprechen − ganz legal. Fünf Aktivistinnen haben eine Kampagne gestartet, um häusliche Gewalt gegen Frauen zu stoppen. Die Regisseurin ist eine von ihnen. Sie sind mit Widerstand aus der Gesellschaft, Religion und vom Staat konfrontiert, aber sie glauben fest an ihr Ziel: ein Gesetz zu forcieren, das häusliche Gewalt unter Strafe stellt. Das wäre ein Durchbruch für Frauenrechte im Iran.

Regisseurin Mina Keshavarz begleitet die Aktivistinnen bei ihrer Kampagne und wird selbst zur Protagonistin. In den bewegenden Geschichten der Frauen wird deutlich, dass häusliche Gewalt viele Facetten hat und bei weitem nicht auf den Iran beschränkt ist. Eine lange Festivalfassung des Films mit dem Titel THE ART OF LIVING IN DANGER erscheint 2020.

Stifled screams

In Iran, men can abuse women, maltreat them, humiliate them, control them and speak on their behalf - and this is all legal. Five female activists have initiated a campaign to put an end to domestic violence against women. The female director is one of them. Although they are confronted by resistance from society, religious institutions/leaders and the state, they strongly believe in their purpose: to push forward a law that makes domestic violence a criminal offence. This would be a breakthrough for women’s rights in Iran.

The female director Mina Keshavarz accompanies the activists during their campaign and becomes a protagonist herself. In the moving stories told by the women, it becomes clear that domestic violence has many facets and is by no means confined to Iran. A full-length festival version of the film entitled THE ART OF LIVING IN DANGER will appear in 2020.
