Ernst Reuter gilt nach wie vor als einer der bedeutendsten und international renommiertesten deutschen Politiker des 20. Jahrhunderts. Der ehemalige Berliner Bürgermeister hat sich als einer der Pioniere der jungen Bundesrepublik weit über sein Engagement in Berlin während der Luftbrücke hinaus einen Namen gemacht. Die großen historischen Ereignisse des 20. Jahrhunderts – Erster Weltkrieg, Russische Revolution, Weimarer Republik, Nationalsozialismus, Deutsche Teilung, Kalter Krieg – haben Reuters Leben geprägt. Und er hat maßgeblich daran mitgewirkt. Zusammen mit seinem Sohn Edzard Reuter, Wegbegleitern, Wissenschaftlern und Politikern begibt sich die Dokumentation ERNST REUTER – EIN ZERRISSENES LEBEN auf die Spuren eines bewegten Lebens.

Ernst Reuter − a disrupted life

Ernst Reuter still ranks among the most influential and internationally renowned German politicians of the 20th century. As one of the pioneers of the Republic of Germany in its infancy, the former Mayor of Berlin made a name for himself far beyond his commitment during the Berlin airlift. Reuter’s life was greatly influenced by the major historic events of the 20th century – the first World War, the Russian Revolution, the Weimar Republic, National Socialism, the division of Germany, and the Cold War. He played an active role in all these events. Together with his son Edzard Reuter, companions, scientists and politicians, the documentary “ERNST REUTER – EIN ZERRISSENES LEBEN” picks up the trail of an eventful life.
