Nach fast 40 Jahren im Dauereinsatz ist der Kriegsfotograf Hark Kallert krankheitsbedingt zu einer Auszeit in Deutschland gezwungen. Sein ehemaliger Jugendfreund und behandelnder Arzt beherbergt ihn in einem Ferienhaus am Steinhuder Meer. Kallert, bisher völlig bindungslos nur für seine Arbeit lebend, sieht sich dort mit der Großfamilie des Arztes und der Entscheidung über seine eigene Zukunft konfrontiert ...

After almost 40 years of continuous service, the war photographer Hark Kallert is forced to return to Germany to take time-out due to illness. His former school-day friend and attending doctor accommodates him in a holiday cottage on the “Steinhuder” lake. Kallert, who has so far lived a completely detached life solely devoted to his work, is now confronted with the decision about his own future amidst the doctor’s extended family …
